Itinerary

  • Day 00/01 - Hong Kong / Istanbul / Cappadocia
    Fly Hong Kong/ Istanbul TK67 2315/0510+1 (11h 55m) – Daily except Wed
      Istanbul/ Kayseri TK2026 0950/1110 (1h 20m) – Daily

     

    Devote the entire day to the wondrous sights of Cappadocia. Carved by nature and shaped by man, the bizarre landscape with its huge towering pinnacles hosted many who’ve escaped here and lived in “caves” during the crusader’s period. After lunch, visit Pasabagi also known as the “Valley of Monks”, Valley of Zelve, the “Imagination Valley” of Devrent, Pigeon Valleys, and Uchisar Castle.

    Transfer to your hotel for 2 nights.

  • Day 02 - Cappadocia

    Optional: Cappadocia Hot-Air Balloon

    Rise early and be rewarded with the surreal landscapes of Cappadocia from the air in a Deluxe Hot-Air Balloon ride! One of the top 3 balloon rides in the world along with the Serengeti and Bagan.N.B. Please note that Hot-Air Balloon rides are weather-dependent, and flights are subject to pilot’s discretion.

     
    Today, visit the Rose and Red Valley (best visited early morning or late afternoon for the best light), followed by the labyrinthine underground city of Kaymakli or Derinkuyu, certainly not for claustrophobes!

  • Day 03 - Cappadocia / Izmir

    This morning, explore the Goreme Open Air Museum where unique frescoes are painted onto the walls of churches carved into volcanic formations.

    Optional extension: Ihlara Valley Hike

    Not enough Cappadocia? Extend a day in Cappadocia and explore the Ihlara Valley gorge on foot! A full-day scenic hike (approx. 5-6hrs, 14km) takes you from Ihlara Village, past numerous semi-ruined churches, chapels, monasteries, and hermits’ caves, stopping for lunch on a floating platform, or the refreshing option with the tables in the river. After lunch, continue on to Selime Monastery, where your transport awaits for your ride back to your hotel.

    N.B. Please note this hike is not recommended in winter due to severe weather conditions.

    Transfer to airport for your flight to Izmir.

  • Day 04 - Izmir

    Begin your sightseeing of one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in the world, and once the commercial center of the ancient world. Considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the city of Ephesus was dedicated to the goddess Artemis.

    In the afternoon, visit the House of Virgin Mary in Selcuk, beautifully nestled amongst the pine-clad hill, and if time permits, also visit the Selcuk Museum.

  • Day 05 - Izmir / Bergama / Izmir

    Bergama is one of the finest archaeological sites in Turkey. The city was a great center of culture and the capital of East Roman Empire, and home to the second largest library in the ancient world, the steepest Theater of Anatolia, the monumental Altar of Zeus, and the Roman Medical Center ruins of Asclepion. Ascend the Acropolis by cable car, then walk back down via the gymnasium situated on the lower terraces of the lower Agora.

  • Day 06 - Izmir / Afrodisias / Hirepolis / Pamukkale

    This morning, drive approx. 3hrs to another of Turkey’s finest archaeological sites. Built by the Romans, Afrodisias, the city dedicated to the Greek goddess of love, is surprisingly not overrun by tourists.

    Next, visit Pamukkale, the impressive cascade of crystal white limestone amphitheatre formation. Also visit Hierapolis, an archaeological site nearby with a mix of pagan, Roman, Jewish and early Christian elements.

    Continue on to your hotel in Pamukkale for the night.

  • Day 07 - Pamukkale / Denizli / Istanbul

    This morning, drive to Denizli airport for your flight to Istanbul.

    Upon arrival in Istanbul Ataturk Airport, transfer to Sultanahmet for a walking tour of the historic district and its iconic sights such as the HippodromeBlue MosqueHagia Sophia (closed Mon) and the Basilica Cistern.

    The former capital of three successive empires, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman, Istanbul today honors and preserves the legacy of its past while looking forward to a modern future.

    Transfer to your hotel for the next 3 nights.

  • Day 08 - Istanbul

    Continue your exploration of modern-day Constantinople. Visit Topkapi Palace (closed Tue) the center of power during the heyday of Ottoman Turks. Next, take a private cruise on the Bosphorus, which separates Asia and Europe, from Eminonu to Sariyer. Enjoy the sight of the beautiful palaces and handsome villas (and some of the priciest real estate this side of the world!) on the Europe side and the majestic walls and castles on the Asia side.

    Practice your bargaining skills at the Grand Bazaar (closed Sun), one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with 61 covered streets and over 3,000 shops!

    A cultural evening awaits with a choice of two programs (first come, first served basis only):

    1. Whirling Dervish Ceremony, OR, 2. Folkloric Dance Show incl. Belly-dancing.

  • Day 09 - Istanbul

    Devote a full day to exploring the Christian world in Fener & Balat, and a tour of Ottoman architecture from the historical districts of Suleymaniye to Vefa, ending at Casaba Paxar. Fener was a district of prominent and predominantly Romaic (Greek Orthodox) families up to the beginning of the 20th century. Balat is located on the southern shores of the Golden Horn, one of the Jewish districts where Jews were re-settled during the time of the Ottoman Empire. Synagogues, Armenian, Bulgarian and Romaic churches, Byzantine remnants and holy springs.

    After lunch, visit the largest mosque complex of the Ottoman empire – the Suleymaniye Mosque, and walk in and around Vefa and try out a popular beverage – Boza. Stroll around the large Fatih complex, which includes Roman columns, Byzantine churches, Gothic cisterns, and large mosques. If your visit falls on a Wednesday, end your tour at one of Istanbul’s most colourful street bazaars –Casaba Paxar.

  • Day 10 - Istanbul / Hong Kong

    Begin your day admiring some of the very finest Byzantine mosaics and frescoes at the Church of St. Savior in Chora. Stock up on organic dried apricots and hazelnuts at the Spice Bazaar!

    Have the rest of the afternoon at leisure. We recommend indulging in a traditional hammam, or Turkish Bath, experience. 

    OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES: If time permits, enrich yourself with one or more of the below programs:

    1. Turkish Cooking Lesson: Save your appetite while learning to whip up a Turkish feast including visiting a local market to shop for ingredients.

    2. Baklava-making Lesson: Visit a local housewife at her home, and learn the art of making the traditional-style homemade rich, sweet pastry made up of layers of phyllo dough filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with honey.

    3. Belly or Gypsy Dancing Lesson: Lose your inhibitions and learn to gypsy dance or belly-dance! Perhaps even show your moves at the next night out!

    4. Helicopter Tour of Istanbul: A 30-minute helicopter tour gives you a bird’s eye view of the Golden Horn, the Historical Peninsula and the lifeline of Istanbul – the Bosphorus.
